Brother Peter G. Van Alst stands as one of the most influential figures in the history of Astoria and western Queens. Born on May 28, 1828, in Dutch Kills, Queens, Van Alst was raised in a family deeply rooted in the area since the early 1700s. His education at local schools and the Astoria Institute set the stage for a remarkable career as a surveyor and civic leader, shaping the very landscape of our community.

Why Donate Blood? 
Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. In New York City, hospitals require a constant supply to save lives after accidents, surgeries, and for patients battling illnesses like cancer. The New York Blood Center has recently issued an urgent call for donations, especially for type O blood, as supplies are nearly 20% below what’s needed to meet hospital demands.

We are thrilled to share the story of our beloved Advance Masonic Temple’s recent transformation, a project that has not only refreshed our building’s appearance but also strengthened our ties with the Astoria community.
