Island City Lodge No. 586Charter Members and Notable Members
Island City Lodge No. 586 began in 1865 at the edge of the East River, in the unsettled days just after the Civil War, when Hunter’s Point was still a rough and half-finished place of ferry slips, workshops, and scattered streets. Its Charter Members did not begin with comfort or permanence. They began in borrowed rooms, with limited means and a firm decision to build something lasting. What they founded was more than a lodge. It was a bond of fraternity, duty, and mutual aid in a community still finding its shape.
This directory honors those founding brothers, and the notable men who carried their work forward. Across the years, Island City Lodge grew with Long Island City itself, moving from humble quarters to a temple of its own, extending charity beyond its walls, helping establish other lodges, and becoming part of the civic life of Queens. The lives gathered here preserve the memory of men who did not simply belong to a lodge, but helped build an institution whose strength was measured in loyalty, service, and endurance.
